Third-party apps have been rather slow to support the Android 13 media player, with Spotify just starting to do so.
Version 8.7.92.521 of Spotify is finally rolling out to the stable channel with support for the Android 13 media player. It comes as Android 13 QPR2 in March will apply a lava lamp effect to make the controller even more themed.
With the latest Spotify app version 8.7.92.521, all users of the music streaming platform will get support for the Android 13 media player. With this new media player, Spotify gets a bunch of visual changes. Notably, you will see rounded square buttons for Play/Pause. Moreover, the Previous and Next buttons are placed on either end of the seek bar.
The above-mentioned changes apply to the new media player for playing music tracks. Likewise, while playing podcasts on Spotify, the "previous” and "next" to a 15-second forward and rewind like we usually see on streaming platforms like YouTube. The "shuffle" and "like'' buttons will be replaced by a "speed up playback" button and an "add to library" media button in the new update.
Spotify joins SoundCloud, Pocket Casts, and Shazam in supporting the Android 13 media player, while notable holdouts include Apple Music, Tidal, and Pandora. YouTube Music, YouTube, Google Podcasts added support rather quickly, while it’s also there for Chrome, Recorder, and Play Books.
It's great to see Spotify join the list, albeit a little late to the party. If you're a Spotify user on an Android device, you should be able to see the new media player after updating the app in the Google Play Store.
